UP CM Yogi Adityanath announces renaming of Mustafabad village in Lakhimpur Kheri as Kabirdham to restore its historical identity linked with Sant Kabir.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that the Mustafabad village in Lakhimpur Kheri district will soon be renamed ‘Kabirdham’. He said the name change aims to restore the area’s historical and cultural identity associated with Sant Kabir, reflecting the state government’s commitment to preserving India’s spiritual heritage.
‘Change Will Restore Kabirdham’s Legacy Linked to Sant Kabir’
Addressing a public gathering during the “Smriti Mahotsav Mela 2025”, CM Yogi Adityanath said his government would bring a formal proposal to rename Mustafabad.
“This change is about restoring the honour of a place associated with Sant Kabir’s legacy. We will move the proposal and take it forward,” the Chief Minister said.
Adityanath added that the renaming aligns with his government’s ongoing efforts to revive traditional names altered by previous regimes.
“Those who ruled earlier renamed Ayodhya as Faizabad, Prayagraj as Allahabad, and Kabirdham as Mustafabad. Our government is reversing that — restoring Ayodhya, restoring Prayagraj, and now reviving Kabirdham to its rightful name,” he stated.
‘No Muslim Population in Mustafabad, Yet the Name Was Given’
The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed surprise upon learning that Mustafabad village has no Muslim population, despite its Islamic name.
“When I came here, I asked about this village. I was told it is called Mustafabad. I asked how many Muslims live here, and I was told there are none. Then I said — change the name. It should be called Kabirdham,” Adityanath told the audience.
He confirmed that the Uttar Pradesh government will seek a formal administrative proposal to complete the renaming process.
‘Public Funds Are Now Used for Cultural Revival, Not Graveyard Walls’
In a pointed criticism of earlier governments, CM Yogi Adityanath said that public funds were once used for building boundary walls around kabristans (graveyards), while his administration is now investing in reviving religious and cultural heritage sites.
“Earlier, government funds were spent on constructing kabristan walls. Now, this money is being used to develop pilgrimage sites and centres of faith across the state,” he said.
“The era of erasing heritage in the name of secularism has ended. Such hypocrisy will no longer be tolerated,” he added.
‘Double-Engine Government Committed to Beautifying Pilgrimage Sites’
Highlighting the efforts of the BJP’s double-engine government, Adityanath said that Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a large-scale cultural and spiritual rejuvenation.
“Every pilgrimage site should be beautified. Facilities such as guest houses and rest shelters for devotees are being constructed. Through the Tourism and Culture Departments, we are reviving major sites of faith like Kashi, Ayodhya, Kushinagar, Naimisharanya, Mathura-Vrindavan, Barsana, Gokul, and Govardhan,” he said.
‘Restoring Cultural Pride and Civilisational Identity’
The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asserted that these initiatives symbolize a revival of India’s ancient cultural pride.
“This is about belongingness and restoring our civilisational identity. The government will continue to revive and protect sites that represent India’s spiritual and cultural roots,” Adityanath said, concluding his address.
The announcement has sparked excitement among locals in Lakhimpur Kheri, who welcomed the move, calling it a step towards reviving the region’s cultural and spiritual importance.
