In a landmark decision, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has officially approved a significant increase in the honorarium for Shikshamitras and part-time instructors (Anudeshaks). Following the directive from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Shikshamitras will now receive ₹18,000 per month, while Anudeshaks will see their pay rise to ₹17,000 per month.
Implementation from April 1
The UP Shikshamitra Mandey Hike was initially announced by CM Yogi on Teacher’s Day (September 5) last year. This decision has now been formally implemented starting April 1, 2026. Education workers across the state will see the enhanced salary reflected in their bank accounts starting May 1.
Financial Impact and Beneficiaries
The UP Shikshamitra Mandey Hike is set to benefit over 1.42 lakh Shikshamitras and nearly 25,000 instructors currently serving in council schools. Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh confirmed that this move will place an additional financial burden of over ₹1,475 crore on the state exchequer.

Currently, there are:
1,42,929 Shikshamitras (divided between central-state funded and fully state-funded).
24,717 Part-time Instructors working in upper primary schools.
