Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday chaired a meeting of the Herbal Advisory Committee at the Secretariat, where he directed officials to adopt a systematic, cluster-based development model for the herbal sector. He emphasized the creation of village-level clusters to boost production, value addition, and market connectivity for herbal and medicinal products.
Focus on Himalayan Herbal Potential
During the meeting, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted that the Himalayan region is a rich source of natural herbal wealth, offering immense potential for economic growth. He instructed departments to give special attention to herbal and medicinal resources from the higher Himalayan areas, which hold significant commercial value.
To strengthen the sector, the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered that a team of domain experts be sent to study the best practices of two leading Indian states known for excellence in the herbal and aroma industries. He said that successful models from these states should be replicated in Uttarakhand to enhance innovation and production capacity.

Coordinated Efforts for Herbal Economy Growth
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami stressed the need for integrated efforts across research, innovation, production, branding, and marketing to increase turnover in the herbal industry. He further directed officials to ensure that farmers receive maximum benefits from the growing herbal economy and that more self-employment opportunities are created at the village level.
He also instructed departments to closely collaborate with Pantnagar University to enhance value addition, processing, and training for herbal products. He added that the inclusion of women in income-generating herbal activities should be prioritized.
Safety Measures in Wildlife-Affected Areas
Addressing concerns from remote regions, the Chief Minister has directed the Agriculture and Forest Departments to deploy joint teams in areas where bears and other wildlife pose a threat to lives and crops. These teams will guide villagers on safety protocols, crop protection measures, and strategies to minimize human-wildlife conflict.
Institute Highlights Ongoing Research
Dr. Abhishek Tripathi, Director of the Institute of Herbal Research and Development, presented the institute’s progress, including research initiatives, conservation efforts for rare medicinal species, production activities, and training programmes.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Expresses Condolences Over Champawat Road Accident
Earlier in the day, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident near Bagdhara in Tehsil Barakot, Champawat district, where five people lost their lives following a severe crash on National Highway (NH-09).
In a message shared via X (Twitter), the Chief Minister’s Office wrote: “The Chief Minister has prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families during this painful time.”
CM Dhami instructed district authorities to provide immediate assistance to affected families and directed officials to expedite all formalities while ensuring that support reaches the victims without delay.
