As part of its ongoing anti-corruption drive, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested Ward Attendant Ravinderpal Singh, stationed at the Civil Surgeon’s office in Gurdaspur, for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹30,000 bribe.
An official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau revealed that the arrest was made following a complaint from a resident of Village Phulkey, Tehsil Batala, in Gurdaspur district. The complainant reported that he had applied for his uncle’s death certificate, but the accused demanded ₹40,000 to process it. After negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at ₹30,000.
Upon preliminary verification of the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB Police Station, Range Amritsar. The accused is set to be presented before the competent court, and further investigation is underway.
