The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing anti-corruption drive, has arrested Jarnail Singh, a Junior Engineer (JE) at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Kotkapura sub-division in Faridkot district, while accepting a ₹10,000 bribe.
According to an official VB spokesperson, the arrest was made following a complaint from a resident of Kothe Chahal Singh, Faridkot. The complainant alleged that the JE had demanded ₹20,000 for shifting a tubewell connection and installing a domestic power meter at an acquaintance’s residence. After negotiations, the JE agreed to take the bribe in two installments.
Upon verifying the complaint, a vigilance team from the Ferozepur range set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the JE at the VB Police Station, Ferozepur Range. The accused will be presented before the court tomorrow, and further investigation is underway.
