Athar Jamal Lari, a seasoned politician who is roughly 66 years old, has run in two Lok Sabha and three assembly elections but hasn’t had much luck. Shortly before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in 2022, he became a member of the Samajwadi Party. Renowned in Purvanchal politics, Lari has rebelled against the Samajwadi Party and is currently running for Varanasi under the BSP banner.
Athar Jamal Lari is a native of Varanasi and has been involved in politics since 1980. He has worked briefly for a number of groups, including the Quami Ekta Dal, which was formerly led by the late Mukhtar Ansari, the Apna Dal, the Samajwadi Party, and the Janata Dal.

Athar Jamal Lari participated in the first Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi in 1984 under the banner of the Janata Party. He received 50,329 votes, which was a little less than Shyamlal Yadav of the Congress party. In 2004, there were more efforts, starting with Sonelal Patel’s Apna Dal, where he received 93,228 votes but lost to Congressman Rajesh Kumar Mishra.
