Dhurandhar: The Revenge Smashes Records, But Sparks Controversy, Aditya Dhar’s latest cinematic powerhouse, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has scripted history at the box office. Opening with a staggering RS 100 crore+, the film has left audiences and critics in awe. While Ranveer Singh’s performance is being hailed, it is Rakesh Bedi’s portrayal of the eccentric Pakistani leader, Jamil Jamali, that has become the talk of the town.
However, not everyone is celebrating the film’s success. The real-life inspiration behind the character—allegedly Pakistani politician Nabeel Gabol—has expressed intense fury over his depiction on screen.
Why Nabeel Gabol is Furious with Rakesh
the release of the first installment in December 2025, Nabeel Gabol has been vocal about his displeasure. Gabol, a prominent figure from Lyari, claims the film’s portrayal is a gross misrepresentation of both his persona and his hometown.
“I am the hero of Lyari, but the film portrays me in a comical, inaccurate manner,” Gabol stated in a recent media interaction.
The Controversy Surrounding Lyari’s Portrayal
In various podcasts and interviews, Gabol argued that Dhurandhar 2 paints Lyari as a hub of terrorism, an image he fought hard to change.
He highlighted that:
Safety Records: Lyari’s crime rate is now among the lowest in Karachi.
Misrepresentation: He claims that if an Indian agent had actually entered Lyari, they would not have escaped as depicted in the film.
Anti-Pakistan Narrative: Gabol labeled the film a “failed attempt” by India to tarnish the image of Pakistan.
Rakesh Bedi Responds: Is Jamil Jamali Based on Nabeel Gabol?
Despite the striking similarities pointed out by viewers and Gabol himself, veteran actor Rakesh Bedi has clarified his stance.
Bedi explained that Jamil Jamali is a fictional composite. While he took references from various Pakistani political figures to ensure an authentic performance, he denies that the character is a direct biopic of Nabeel Gabol. According to Bedi, the goal was to provide a balanced mix of tension and comic relief through the character’s unique mannerisms.
