CM Yogi Adityanath announces a massive drive to recruit 1 lakh new UP Police personnel in 2026. Learn about the merit-based hiring and modernization plans
Marking a historic milestone for employment in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Tuesday that the state government will recruit one lakh new personnel into the UP Police force this year. The announcement was made during an event at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, where Yogi Adityanath distributed appointment letters to 936 newly selected Head Operators in the Police Telecommunication Department.
A Massive Boost to Law Enforcement
The ambitious recruitment drive is part of the government’s broader vision to modernize the state’s police force and strengthen law and order. Yogi Adityanath emphasized that these one lakh new recruitments would provide significant job opportunities for the youth while ensuring that every wing of the police department is fully staffed and operationally ready.
Merit Over Recommendations
During his address, Yogi Adityanath took a firm stance against the corrupt practices of previous administrations. He noted that nine years ago, recruitment processes were marred by discrimination and illegal transactions. “The fairness with which the police recruitment process is completed today was once impossible. Now, no recommendation or money is required; recruitment is conducted purely on merit and capability,” Yogi Adityanath stated.

Strengthening the “Double-Engine” Performance
Highlighting the achievements of the past decade, the Chief Minister shared that over 2.20 lakh personnel have been recruited into the UP Police over the last nine years. Yogi Adityanath pointed out that the “double-engine government” has successfully transformed Uttar Pradesh from a “BIMARU” state into a major contributor to India’s national development.
Promoting Sports and Physical Fitness
The Chief Minister also took pride in the fact that Uttar Pradesh is the first state to integrate over 500 skilled athletes into the police force. Yogi Adityanath mentioned that this initiative has led to the state police winning more national and international medals than ever before. He further advised the new recruits to prioritize physical fitness, noting that a healthy body is essential for a sharp mind and honest service to the nation.
Current Progress and Future Notifications
While the official notification for the one lakh vacancies is expected soon, the state has already seen rapid movement in other departments. Recently, examinations for 41,000 UP Home Guards were conducted, and processes for Civil Police and other wings are gaining momentum. By the end of 2026, the UP Police aims to be one of the most technologically advanced and well-staffed forces in the country.
