Yogi Adityanath targets SP over the 2015-16 investment summit, highlighting changes in electricity supply, infrastructure and Ayodhya’s development.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has criticised the Samajwadi Party (SP), alleging that the state faced significant challenges in electricity supply, infrastructure and investor confidence before 2017. He claimed that industry leaders from across India had declined to attend an investment summit planned in Lucknow during the previous government’s tenure, forcing the event to be shifted to Delhi.
Addressing the inauguration of the Tech Sangam International Conference in Lucknow on Saturday, Adityanath highlighted the changes his government claims to have brought to Uttar Pradesh since 2017. He pointed to improvements in electricity availability, public security, employment opportunities and infrastructure as indicators of the state’s transformation.
Yogi Adityanath Targets SP Over Investment Summit
Speaking about the previous government’s efforts to attract investment, Yogi Adityanath said an investment summit was planned in Uttar Pradesh in 2015-16. According to the Chief Minister, the event could not take place in Lucknow as intended because industry representatives from different parts of the country were unwilling to attend.
He claimed that the organisers ultimately had to move the summit to Delhi after failing to secure the participation of industry leaders in Lucknow. The Chief Minister used the episode to question the previous government’s ability to establish Uttar Pradesh as an attractive destination for business and investment.
Adityanath also remarked that before 2017, experts and industry representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, other European nations and different parts of India would not have considered attending an international summit in Lucknow.
CM Highlights Changes in Electricity Supply and Security
During his address, Adityanath also raised concerns about electricity distribution under the previous government. He alleged that power supply was not provided equally to people before 2017.

The Chief Minister said the situation had changed under his administration, claiming that electricity was now available to people without discrimination. He also highlighted security and employment generation as key areas in which his government has focused its efforts.
His remarks formed part of a broader comparison between Uttar Pradesh before 2017 and the state’s current development priorities, particularly its efforts to attract investment and strengthen economic activity.
Ayodhya’s Transformation and the Rise of Deepotsav
Adityanath also discussed Ayodhya’s development, recalling the difficulties the city faced before 2017. He claimed that Ayodhya previously received only around three hours of electricity and lacked adequate infrastructure and basic facilities.
The Chief Minister said his government launched the Deepotsav celebration in Ayodhya in 2017 during Diwali, despite doubts about whether such a large-scale event could be organised in the city.
According to Adityanath, Deepotsav has since grown into a major celebration, attracting lakhs of visitors and gaining attention from audiences around the world. He said the event has helped establish Ayodhya as a prominent cultural and religious destination.
Four-Lane Roads and International Airport in Ayodhya
Highlighting infrastructure development, Adityanath said Ayodhya’s narrow lanes and limited facilities had given way to wider roads and improved connectivity. He referred to the development of four-lane and six-lane roads and the construction of an international airport intended to connect the city with destinations across India and abroad.
The Chief Minister argued that the lack of development had affected not only Ayodhya but also Uttar Pradesh’s broader progress. He presented the city’s transformation as an example of the changes taking place in the state since 2017.
Uttar Pradesh’s Focus on Investment and Development
At the Tech Sangam International Conference, Adityanath emphasised the importance of creating an environment that encourages businesses to invest and expand in Uttar Pradesh. His comments on the earlier investment summit were aimed at contrasting the previous government’s record with his administration’s approach to infrastructure, security and economic growth.
The Chief Minister’s remarks brought the state’s political debate back to the period before 2017, with the Samajwadi Party’s tenure becoming a key point of comparison. His claims about the relocation of the 2015-16 investment summit and the changes in Ayodhya were part of his argument that Uttar Pradesh has undergone a significant transformation under his leadership.
