CM Yogi Adityanath in Baghpat: “Yogis weren’t confined to caves; they led the fight for Dharma.” Read about his views on Sanatan history and Jat empowerment.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a significant statement during his visit to Baghpat, emphasizing the historical and proactive role of spiritual leaders in India’s defense. He asserted that “Yogis in ancient times were not just limited to caves,” but were strategic leaders who united society against foreign invaders.
From Mahabharata to Modern Icons
Highlighting the historical significance of the region, CM Yogi noted that Baghpat’s roots trace back to the Mahabharata era. It is widely believed to be one of the five villages demanded by Lord Krishna from the Kauravas to avert war.
The Chief Minister also paid tribute to the legendary Chaudhary Charan Singh, calling Baghpat the “Karma-Bhoomi” (land of action) of the farmers’ messiah. He remarked that this soil has consistently produced icons who have shaped the nation’s destiny.
Breaking Stereotypes: The Jat Community’s Contribution
In a move to laud the local community, CM Yogi challenged the stereotype that the Jat community is only limited to agriculture.
“People say Jats are only confined to farming, but I say a Jat can become the Police Commissioner of Mumbai. Satya Pal Singh, a son of Baghpat, proved this by leading the Mumbai Police and teaching the nation the lesson of law and order,” he stated.
The Role of Saints in Resisting Invaders
The Chief Minister drew a parallel between spiritual life and national duty. He mentioned that Guru Gorakhnath ignited the flame of Dharma against foreign aggressors. According to him, during the periods of slavery, Yogis formulated strategies and mobilized the masses.
Proactive Defense: “If religion and culture are attacked, a Yogi will not sit silently; he will fight back and give a befitting reply,” Yogi Adityanath declared.
True Sainthood: He defined a true saint as someone who stands with society during times of crisis, rather than remaining detached.

Sanatan Dharma: A Legacy of Peace, Not Slavery
CM Yogi emphasized that history is a witness to the fact that Sanatan Dharma has never forcibly enslaved anyone. He highlighted India’s core philosophy:
Non-Expansionist Policy: India has never adopted a policy of capturing another nation’s land.
Resilience Against Aggression: While India never initiated a conflict, it never stopped fighting against invaders who desecrated temples and monasteries.
The Power of Revival: He noted that while the names of the invaders have turned to dust, the sacred pilgrimage sites (Tirthas) they tried to destroy have been revived and rejuvenated.
The Rise of the Double-Engine Government
The Chief Minister credited the “Double-Engine” government (State and Center) for the construction of the Grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya, stating that the long-standing struggle for Kashi Vishwanath and Ayodhya has finally reached a triumphant conclusion.
He also mentioned that under the leadership of Jayant Chaudhary, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) is now working in tandem with the central government to drive development in the region.
Cultural Identity and Strength
“Our ancestors taught us to say ‘Ram-Ram’ so that the Lord remains in our remembrance at every moment,” CM Yogi added. He also recalled India’s nuclear strength, mentioning the Operation Shakti tests conducted under the leadership of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a symbol of India’s global standing.
