The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is now expected to host the IPL final and Qualifier 2, replacing Kolkata’s famous Eden Gardens. Initially, the final and Qualifier 1 were set for May 23 and 25, but the BCCI shifted them to June 1 and 3 after releasing an updated schedule for the remaining 17 matches.
This venue shift is mainly due to the weather conditions in Kolkata, where rain is anticipated on June 1 and 3. Although the BCCI did not specify the playoff venues in the revised schedule, it is keeping a close watch on the monsoon situation. If the weather forecast improves, Kolkata could still host some games. However, Ahmedabad is currently the preferred choice as it’s expected to remain dry in early June.
When it comes to hosting the Qualifier and Eliminator, Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium appears to be the BCCI’s preferred choice. However, the final call will depend on how the monsoon progresses.
Mumbai recently witnessed heavy rainfall and has stayed cloudy ever since. If weather conditions improve in any northern Indian venues, the BCCI may consider relocating the matches without hesitation
