While reviewing Haryana’s preparedness for the ongoing monsoon season, CM Nayab Singh Saini directed officials to ensure thorough cleaning of all drains and implementation of effective drainage systems to prevent waterlogging in both rural and urban areas. He stressed the importance of having sufficient pumps in place and ensuring their full functionality for swift rainwater drainage.
Presiding over a video conference with all Deputy Commissioners, the Chief Minister issued several key instructions to enhance flood preparedness across the state.
Deputy Commissioners asked to identify waterlogging hotspots and take preventive action
CM Nayab Singh Saini instructed the Deputy Commissioners to proactively identify areas vulnerable to waterlogging and implement timely preventive measures. He emphasized the need for district-level arrangements to ensure uninterrupted drainage of rainwater, especially in light of forecasted heavy rainfall, to avoid public inconvenience.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister inquired about the availability of water pumps in each district and directed that all pumps be fully operational. He also asked the Deputy Commissioners to compile a detailed report on pump availability across departments such as Irrigation and Water Resources, Urban Local Bodies, Public Health Engineering, and HSVP. The data must be regularly updated in the prescribed format, and arrangements for backup electricity must be made to ensure uninterrupted pump operation.
Drain cleaning and beautification efforts to be intensified
CM Nayab Singh Saini instructed officials to step up the cleaning of drains, particularly in urban areas, to avoid overflow during heavy rains. He also called for the exploration of covering the Gaunchi Drain in Faridabad and similar drains elsewhere. To prevent waste dumping, nets should be installed at key points, and efforts should be made to beautify the drains.
Funds allocated for flood preparedness and dewatering efforts
It was shared during the meeting that ₹4.50 lakh has been allocated to each district for flood preparedness, while ₹50 lakh has been provided to the Public Health Engineering Department for dewatering operations. The Chief Minister added that if needed, additional funds would be made available under the State Disaster Management Fund.
He also directed officials to take all necessary steps to control the spread of waterborne and vector-borne diseases during the monsoon season.
Focus on addressing public grievances and scheme implementation
CM Nayab Singh Saini also instructed Deputy Commissioners to promptly address complaints received during Samadhan Shivirs. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible person benefits from state welfare schemes. In cases where an application is denied, applicants must be clearly informed of the reasons. If a case cannot be resolved due to policy limitations, it should be escalated to the Chief Secretary’s Office for further action.
