Anurag Kashyap Explains the Real Struggles Behind Bollywood Star Kids Like Ananya Panday
Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap has opened up about the evolving career of actress Ananya Panday, reflecting on how recent industry conversations about privilege and struggle have impacted her professional journey. His remarks come in the wake of actor Siddhant Chaturvedi’s candid comments on nepotism and the challenges faced by outsiders in Bollywood.

Speaking to The Juggernaut, Kashyap highlighted the complex dynamics star kids often face. “Star kids are often restricted by their parents,” he said, suggesting that despite having access to opportunities, many celebrity children struggle to break free from parental expectations and limitations that may hold them back.
Kashyap also named some of his favorite star kids in the industry, praising their talent and growth. “Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Ananya, and Ayan Mukerji. There’s Dhanush in the South. There are lots of people, Fahadh Faasil,” he shared.
The director believes a turning point for Ananya came after Siddhant Chaturvedi’s sharp remarks in 2019, which challenged the narrative of struggle within star kids. At the time, Ananya had described her struggle as being “not invited to Koffee With Karan.” Siddhant responded with the now-famous line, “Everyone has their own struggle. The only difference is jahan humare sapne poore hote hain, wahan inka struggle shuru hota hai” — meaning, “Their struggle begins where our dreams are fulfilled.”
Kashyap noted that Ananya seemed to have taken Siddhant’s words to heart, which sparked a visible change in her attitude and career. “I think she figured out something after that interview. Something changed inside her,” he remarked, praising her recent performances as evidence of her growth and renewed determination.
This insight adds to the ongoing discussion about nepotism and privilege in Bollywood, highlighting how even star kids face their own unique challenges, some of which stem from family pressures and expectations. Kashyap’s comments offer a nuanced perspective on the journey of star kids like Ananya Panday, emphasizing that growth often comes from confronting uncomfortable truths and personal reflection.
