Indian Censor Board Slashes Superman’s Romantic Moments, Fans Call It Hypocrisy!
India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has come under fire after it ordered cuts to two kissing scenes in the latest Superman film, sparking widespread criticism from viewers and industry insiders alike.

Indian Censor Board Under Fire: Why Is Superman’s Kiss ‘Too Sensual’ for India?
The controversial cuts involved removing a 33-second kiss between Superman and Lois Lane, deemed “overly sensual” by the board for Indian audiences. As a result, the theatrical version screened in India abruptly jumps from the lead-up to the kiss straight to the aftermath, disrupting the movie’s flow.
Many viewers expressed frustration over what they see as inconsistent censorship standards. Social media users pointed out the apparent double standards of the CBFC, accusing it of permitting graphic violence, misogyny, and even sexual assault scenes in Indian films—some of which are rated for unrestricted or family viewing—while restricting a consensual romantic moment in a Hollywood superhero movie.
One viewer wrote, “CBFC would allow horrific scenes of violence and sexual assault in a U-certified film that kids freely watch, but won’t allow consensual kissing in a U/A comic book movie that kids should watch under adult supervision.”
Others highlighted the irony of the situation, noting that Indian films often show “sleazy” scenes where male leads grope, stalk, or assault heroines without similar censorship. “So, Superman is NOT allowed to kiss Lois Lane on Indian screens. But all sleazy leading men of Indian films are allowed to do whatever they want with their heroines. Are you serious, Indian censor board?” another comment read.
The abrupt cuts also drew criticism for spoiling the movie’s pacing and storytelling. “The Indian censor board has embarrassed itself with the abrupt cuts they’ve made to the film. The ‘morality’ of censorship aside, the way they’ve managed to mangle the flow is atrocious,” said one disgruntled fan.
This incident adds to ongoing debates in India about the role and standards of film censorship, with many calling for more consistent and transparent guidelines that respect audience maturity and storytelling integrity.
