West Indies announces 15-member squad for T20 series against Nepal in Sharjah, with Akeal Hosein as captain and five uncapped players included. Matches to be played on September 27, 29, and 30.
The West Indies cricket team is all set to play a three-match T20I series against Nepal later this month in Sharjah. Ahead of this exciting series, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially announced a 15-member squad, with five uncapped players earning their maiden call-up. The series will be played at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium on September 27, 29, and 30, 2025.
This series comes just before West Indies’ upcoming two-match Test series against India in October, and it serves as a great platform to test the team’s bench strength and provide opportunities to young, emerging talent.
In a notable decision, regular T20 captain Shai Hope has been rested for this series. In his absence, left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein has been named the captain. This will be Hosein’s first time leading the West Indies in any international series across formats, a significant step in his leadership journey.
The squad sees the inclusion of five uncapped players: Ackeem Auguste, Naveen Bidaisee, Zishan Motara, Ramon Simmonds, and Amir Jangoo. All five have shown promise in domestic cricket and now get the opportunity to showcase their skills on the international stage. In addition to them, Karima Gore, who previously represented the United States in eight T20 internationals, has been selected and could make his debut for West Indies.
Despite the presence of several fresh faces, the team retains experienced players to guide the younger ones. Senior pros like Fabian Allen, Jason Holder, and Kyle Mayers have been included in the squad to add depth and balance to the side. Their presence will be crucial both on and off the field, especially as the team prepares for future global tournaments.
The three-match T20I series will be played on September 27, 29, and 30 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE. This series is expected to provide valuable match practice and allow the selectors to assess new talent ahead of bigger challenges.
The West Indies will aim to dominate the series against Nepal and carry forward their winning momentum, while Nepal will look to take this opportunity to challenge a higher-ranked side and continue their rise in international cricket.
