Now, with iOS 26.1 in beta testing, Apple has added more control to the experience.
New Toggle for Liquid Glass: Clear vs Tinted Modes
As first reported by 9to5Mac, Apple’s latest developer beta includes a new toggle option that allows users to choose between ‘Clear’ and ‘Tinted’ versions of the Liquid Glass effect. This feature can be found under:
Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass
-
Clear Mode: Retains the original transparent look
-
Tinted Mode: Adds opacity to enhance visibility and reduce eye strain
Apple says the update is designed to let users “choose their preferred look for Liquid Glass“, marking a shift toward greater visual personalization in iOS.

Feature Also Coming to iPadOS and macOS
The same setting is being tested in iPadOS 26.1 and macOS 26.1, with both updates currently available in developer beta form. A public beta release is expected soon, and the full rollout is anticipated by late October or early November 2025.
iOS 26 Recap and Device Compatibility
iOS 26 officially launched on September 15, 2025, and came pre-installed on the iPhone 17 series. The update is also available for the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer models. The Liquid Glass interface was one of iOS 26’s most talked-about design features, blending transparency and motion for a futuristic feel—but it wasn’t universally welcomed.
This latest update appears to be Apple’s response to balancing design innovation with usability.
