“When I got injured, the entire team decided to win the World Cup for me. None of the players told me directly, but I came to know later. Even though I was technically not part of the playing XI in the final and was in a wheelchair, the team took me on the stage. This is like a family, and when a family plays with unity, it becomes nearly impossible to beat them. We truly deserved to win the final,” Rawal said.
PM Modi echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the importance of team spirit in sports. “Team spirit is the most important in any sport. It doesn’t need to be shown only on the field. When players stay together 24 hours a day, a special bond is created. It helps cover weaknesses and enhance strengths,” he said.
Pratika Rawal’s performance throughout the World Cup was exceptional. Before her injury, she scored 308 runs in six innings, finishing as the fourth-highest run-scorer of the tournament. Notably, she played a crucial century against New Zealand in a must-win match, helping India secure a place in the semifinals. Shafali Verma replaced her in the squad and went on to win the Player of the Match award in the final.
The Indian women’s cricket team’s historic World Cup win, combined with the camaraderie and support shown to injured players like Pratika Rawal, highlights the unity and determination that made the triumph possible.
