Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended Uttarakhand’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in Dehradun, marking 25 years of statehood. He highlighted the state’s journey of spiritual strength, rapid growth, and development through major projects worth ₹8,000 crore.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami graced the grand Silver Jubilee celebrations marking 25 years since the formation of Uttarakhand. The main ceremony took place at the Forest Research Institute (FRI) in Dehradun, where over one lakh people gathered to celebrate the state’s remarkable journey since its establishment in 2000.
During the event, PM Modi unveiled a commemorative postal stamp and praised Uttarakhand’s progress, calling its 25-year journey a testament to spiritual strength, resilience, and self-reliance.
Uttarakhand’s Journey from a Small State to a Model of Growth
Over the past 25 years, Uttarakhand has experienced exceptional transformation across sectors. Prime Minister Modi noted that the state’s budget has increased from ₹4,000 crore to over ₹1 lakh crore, while electricity production has quadrupled and road connectivity has doubled.
The number of engineering colleges has grown tenfold, and medical colleges have expanded from one to ten, ensuring better education and healthcare access. Tourist arrivals have surged dramatically, with air travelers rising from 4,000 in six months to 4,000 per day, reflecting the state’s growing economic and tourism potential.
Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Spiritual Identity of Uttarakhand
PM Narendra Modi lauded Uttarakhand’s deep-rooted association with the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, emphasizing that self-reliance and spirituality define the true identity of the hill state.
Narendra Modi expressed confidence that Uttarakhand could soon emerge as the ‘Spiritual Capital of the World’, thanks to its sacred pilgrimage sites like Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Jageshwar, and Adi Kailash. “These divine places not only attract millions of devotees every year but also strengthen the local economy through faith-driven tourism,” he said.
Tribute to the Martyrs and Vision for the Future
Honoring the heroes of the Uttarakhand statehood movement, PM Narendra Modi paid homage to those who sacrificed their lives for the creation of the state. He called the current decade the “Decade of Uttarakhand,” encouraging people to continue the momentum of development through unity and dedication.

“Under the double-engine government, Uttarakhand has made significant strides in infrastructure, education, and energy. The next ten years will define the state’s rise as a model for sustainable development,” Modi said.
Inauguration of ₹8,000 Crore Development Projects
As part of the Silver Jubilee celebration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated projects worth ₹930 crore and laid foundation stones for new projects exceeding ₹7,210 crore. These initiatives cover vital sectors including drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, sports, urban development, and skill enhancement.

Dehradun Water Supply Project under the AMRUT scheme (covering 23 zones)
Solar Power Plants on government buildings
Pithoragarh Electrical Substation
AstroTurf Hockey Ground at Haldwani Stadium in Nainital
Focus on Hydropower, Education, and Farmer Welfare
PM Narendra Modi launched several key initiatives in the hydropower and agricultural sectors. Major announcements include the Song Dam Drinking Water Project, which will supply 150 million liters per day to Dehradun, and the Jamarani Dam Multipurpose Project in Nainital to support irrigation, electricity, and drinking water needs.
In the education sector, Narendra Modi laid the foundation for a Women’s Sports College in Champawat, promoting sports and women’s empowerment. A modern dairy plant in Nainital was also announced to boost the dairy industry and rural employment.
Demonstrating his government’s commitment to farmers, the Prime Minister released ₹62 crore directly to 28,000 farmers under the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, providing financial assistance for crop protection and agricultural resilience.

PM Narendra Modi concluded his address by reaffirming his emotional bond with Uttarakhand and its people.
