Samsung Galaxy S26 may skip brighter screens with peak brightness staying at 2,600 nits. Learn about display features, M14 OLED material, and other upgrades.
Samsung fans expecting brighter displays on the upcoming Galaxy S26 series may have to temper their expectations. According to a new leak, the Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra will continue to feature a peak brightness of 2,600 nits — the same as the Galaxy S24 and S25 series. This revelation raises questions about Samsung’s 2026 strategy, especially as competitors push higher brightness levels in their smartphones.
Galaxy S26 Display Brightness Leak
The leak comes from well-known tipster PhoneArt (@UniverseIce) on X, who confirmed that all Galaxy S26 models will stick with 2,600-nit peak brightness. While 2,600 nits is bright enough for outdoor visibility, many fans expected a significant upgrade. Competing brands like Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo are already offering OLED panels with much higher brightness levels — the iPhone 17 reportedly at 3,000 nits, Xiaomi 17 at 3,500 nits, Oppo Find X9 at 3,600 nits, and Vivo X300 at 4,500 nits.

Despite using the new M14 OLED material, Samsung may not increase brightness this time. The M14 material is praised for its improved color purity, better durability, and more efficient energy use, but it does not inherently boost peak brightness or affect dimming speed and color depth.
Possible Reasons for Maintaining Brightness
Industry experts speculate Samsung may be limiting brightness to reduce heat generation, enhance battery efficiency, or control production costs. While fans may be disappointed, staying at 2,600 nits ensures the devices remain practical for everyday and outdoor use.
Other Expected Upgrades in Galaxy S26 Series
Even though the peak brightness may not increase, Samsung is expected to focus on other display and performance improvements:
-
Galaxy S26 Ultra may feature a stronger version of Corning Gorilla Armour with enhanced anti-reflective coating for better clarity.
-
A Privacy Display feature could be introduced, which dims sensitive content automatically.
-
Charging upgrades are anticipated: Galaxy S26 Ultra could support 60W wired and 25W wireless charging, while the S26 and S26 Plus may get 20W wireless charging.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 series is expected to launch in January 2026, though some reports suggest February or March as possible release months. While display brightness may not see a jump, other technological improvements could make the Galaxy S26 lineup appealing to tech enthusiasts.
