Uttarakhand government increases salaries of specialist doctors in hilly regions to ₹7 lakh per month under U-Code V scheme to improve healthcare access and reduce treatment delays.
In a major move to strengthen healthcare services in Uttarakhand’s mountainous regions, the state government has raised the monthly salaries of specialist doctors under the “You Code, We Pay” (U-Code V) scheme to ₹7 lakh. This decision aims to address the longstanding shortage of qualified doctors in hilly districts and improve timely access to critical medical care.
Enhancing Healthcare in Hilly Regions
The Uttarakhand government has taken this step to ensure quality healthcare in the state’s challenging terrains. The revised pay scale, recently updated under the U-Code V scheme, will now offer specialist doctors higher compensation based on their qualifications and service requirements. Previously, the scheme provided a maximum monthly salary of ₹5 lakh, but to enhance super-specialty services in remote areas, the salary has been increased to ₹7 lakh.

Areas such as Chaukhutia, Pilkhi, Beleshwar, Gairsain, Dhumakot, and Pithoragarh have expressed a consistent demand for specialists. Ensuring the availability of these services in remote hospitals remains a top priority for the state.
With the increased salaries, a larger number of specialist doctors are likely to accept postings in hilly regions. This will not only improve healthcare facilities but also reduce delays in treating serious medical conditions and ease the burden on plains-based hospitals.
