Air India Delhi-Singapore flight returns after APU fire alert; 190 passengers safely shifted to another aircraft. Full details on flight incident & rerouting.
An Air India flight from Delhi to Singapore had to return to the national capital shortly after takeoff on Thursday due to a technical alert, impacting approximately 190 passengers. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner reportedly triggered an APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) fire warning, prompting the crew to make a precautionary return. The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and passengers were later accommodated on another flight to Singapore.
Flight Incident Details
According to sources, Air India Flight AI 2380 departed Delhi with 190 passengers for Singapore on January 14, 2026. Within an hour of takeoff, the onboard systems issued a potential APU fire warning. The pilots acted prudently, returning the aircraft to Delhi to ensure passenger safety. Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 confirmed that the Dreamliner landed safely around 1:00 AM.
An Air India spokesperson confirmed, “The operating crew opted for a safe return due to a suspected technical issue. All passengers were assisted by our ground teams in Delhi and were later sent to Singapore on an alternate aircraft. We regret the inconvenience caused.”

Passenger Safety and Support
Air India emphasized that passenger safety remains its top priority. Ground staff promptly arranged a replacement aircraft to minimize disruption, ensuring that travelers could continue their journey to Singapore without major delays.
Impact on Other Flights
The airline also faced challenges with international operations due to the closure of Iranian airspace. As a result, at least three US-bound flights were canceled, including two from Delhi to New York and Newark, and one from Mumbai to New York. Certain European flights are also expected to experience delays. Air India stated that flights are now using alternative airspace over Iraq, which may extend flight durations due to increased routing distances.
An official statement on X (formerly Twitter) said, “Due to the evolving situation in Iran and subsequent airspace closure, flights over this region are being rerouted, potentially causing delays. Flights that cannot be rerouted safely are being canceled. We sincerely regret the inconvenience to passengers.”
