PM Modi congratulates Himanta Biswa Sarma on second term as Assam CM after NDA’s strong win, praising his leadership and governance record.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended his congratulations to Himanta Biswa Sarma after he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term, marking a strong continuation of NDA leadership in the state.
Calling it a “great day for Assam,” PM Modi praised Sarma’s administrative record and leadership, stating that he has played a key role in driving development and governance reforms in the state. He also wished him success for the new term.
In a post on X, PM Modi highlighted Sarma’s contribution, describing him as a “wonderful administrator” who has undertaken “pioneering work” for Assam’s growth and progress.
Congratulations to Newly Sworn-In Ministers
Along with Sarma, PM Modi also congratulated newly inducted ministers including Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog.
He expressed confidence that the new team will further strengthen Assam’s development trajectory and continue the momentum of growth under the NDA government.

Grand Oath Ceremony in Guwahati
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara, Guwahati, in the presence of top national leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from NDA-ruled states.
The event reflected the political significance of Assam within the NDA framework and showcased strong party unity at the national level.
NDA’s Strong Mandate in Assam Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA secured a decisive victory in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, winning 102 out of 126 seats, ensuring a three-fourths majority in the state.
Both allies, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), also contributed significantly to the coalition’s success.
Strong Mandate for Continued Governance
Himanta Biswa Sarma retained his constituency with a margin of over 80,000 votes, further strengthening his position as one of the BJP’s most influential leaders in the Northeast.
In his victory remarks, Sarma credited the “double-engine government” led by PM Modi for accelerating Assam’s development over the past decade, promising continued focus on infrastructure, governance reforms, and welfare initiatives.
