Punjab honoured 300+ government school principals after record JEE and NEET 2026 results under the PACE initiative led by Harjot Singh Bains.
Punjab government schools have registered a significant improvement in national-level competitive examination results, with impressive gains in JEE (Main), JEE (Advanced), and NEET-UG 2026 under the Punjab Academic Coaching for Excellence (PACE) initiative.
To celebrate this achievement, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, along with former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, honoured more than 300 government school principals at a felicitation ceremony held at the Mohali Club in SAS Nagar. The event recognised school leaders for their role in mentoring students and strengthening academic excellence in government schools.
JEE and NEET Results Show Strong Growth
Addressing the gathering, Harjot Singh Bains said Punjab government schools have delivered another year of outstanding performance in national competitive examinations.
According to the Education Minister, 361 students qualified JEE (Main) 2026, marking a 35.2% increase over the previous year. Meanwhile, 64 students cleared JEE (Advanced), registering a 45.5% year-on-year growth.
The state also witnessed remarkable progress in medical entrance examinations. A total of 882 students from Punjab government schools qualified NEET-UG 2026, compared to 847 in 2025 and 437 in 2024, reflecting a growth of more than 100% over the last two years.
Students Reach IITs, NITs and Top Engineering Colleges
Highlighting the outcomes of the state’s education reforms, Harjot Singh Bains said the results reflect the impact of Punjab Sikhya Kranti and the government’s sustained investment in improving academic support.
He informed that 10 students have secured admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 36 students have entered National Institutes of Technology (NITs), while more than 90 students have gained admission to Punjab Government engineering colleges across India.
The minister said Punjab’s government schools are now producing students capable of competing successfully for admission to the country’s premier higher education institutions.
Leadership Plays a Key Role in School Success
Emphasising the importance of school leadership, Harjot Singh Bains said dedicated principals play a vital role in transforming educational institutions.
He noted that committed leadership, combined with quality teaching, can turn even basic infrastructure into centres of academic excellence, while policies alone cannot deliver results without the active involvement of educators.
PACE Coaching Strengthened Competitive Exam Preparation
The Education Minister also highlighted the expansion of the PACE initiative, under which the School Education Department organised four large-scale residential coaching camps in Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar and Mohali during June 2026.
Nearly 3,000 students participated in these intensive programmes, which included expert mentoring, mock tests, doubt-clearing sessions and focused preparation for engineering and medical entrance examinations.
He congratulated the principals, teachers and school staff for their contribution and expressed confidence that Punjab’s education transformation would continue gaining momentum.
Teachers Are the Real Architects of Educational Change: Sisodia
Speaking at the ceremony, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said teachers remain the driving force behind meaningful educational reform.
He remarked that while governments can provide modern infrastructure, it is teachers who create an environment where students develop confidence, ambition and the ability to achieve their goals.
Sisodia added that the Punjab government is strengthening both school infrastructure and academic support through structured mentoring, expert coaching, continuous assessment and residential learning programmes, enabling students from government schools to compete successfully in examinations such as JEE and NEET.
He said government schools are increasingly becoming institutions of opportunity, opening pathways for students to IITs, NITs, medical colleges and promising careers.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by PDC Member Anurag Kundu, Director School Education (Secondary) S.S. Bal, along with senior officials of the School Education Department.
