CM Yogi Adityanath showered flower petals on Kanwariyas in Meerut and reviewed Kanwar Yatra arrangements, with 4–4.5 crore devotees expected.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday welcomed Kanwariyas in Meerut by showering flower petals on devotees undertaking the annual Kanwar Yatra. The Chief Minister also conducted an aerial inspection of the pilgrimage route to assess security, traffic management and other arrangements for the thousands of Shiva devotees travelling through western Uttar Pradesh.
The visit came amid heightened activity on the Kanwar Yatra routes as devotees carrying holy water from Haridwar continue their journey towards various Shiva temples for Jalabhishek on Sawan Shivratri.
CM Yogi Adityanath conducts aerial survey of Kanwar route
Before reaching Meerut, CM Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey by helicopter to review arrangements along the Kanwar Yatra route. The inspection covered important stretches passing through the Meerut region as the administration stepped up preparations for the large number of pilgrims expected during the final phase of the religious journey.
The Chief Minister later reached Meerut and participated in the flower-petal shower organised to welcome the Kanwariyas. The event created a festive atmosphere, with devotees expressing enthusiasm as flowers were showered on them.
4 to 4.5 crore devotees expected for Jalabhishek
Addressing reporters in Meerut, CM Yogi Adityanath said that a large number of Shiva devotees are currently participating in the Kanwar Yatra after collecting holy water from Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar.
According to the Chief Minister, around 4 to 4.5 crore devotees are expected to participate in the pilgrimage by Sawan Shivratri. These devotees will carry the sacred water to Shiva temples in different parts of the region and perform Jalabhishek.
He said the Uttar Pradesh government has made extensive arrangements to ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims throughout the journey.

Government focused on safety and facilities
CM Yogi Adityanath said the state government is committed to providing a secure environment for Kanwariyas and ensuring that devotees receive necessary assistance along the pilgrimage routes.
The Kanwar Yatra attracts devotees from several states every year. Pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and other regions participate in the journey during the holy month of Sawan.
The Chief Minister also extended greetings to the Kanwariyas and welcomed them on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government.
Kanwar Yatra seen as a symbol of social unity
Highlighting the broader significance of the pilgrimage, CM Yogi Adityanath said the Kanwar Yatra reflects devotion as well as social harmony and national unity.
The annual pilgrimage brings together people from different communities, regions and social backgrounds. Devotees travel together while carrying holy water for offering at Shiva temples, creating an atmosphere of collective faith along the route.
The administration and local communities have also established service camps at several locations to provide food, water, medical assistance and other facilities to pilgrims.
Significance of Sawan and Kanwar Yatra
Sawan, also known as Shravan, is considered one of the most important months for devotees of Lord Shiva. Religious traditions associate the month with special worship and prayers dedicated to Shiva.
During the Sawan period, Kanwariyas collect holy water from sacred rivers and pilgrimage sites before travelling to Shiva temples for Jalabhishek. The Kanwar Yatra is one of the largest annual religious pilgrimages in North India.
CM Yogi Adityanath said the government would continue to work with the administration and local communities to ensure that devotees can complete their pilgrimage safely and peacefully.
The Sawan month this year began on July 30 and will conclude on August 28, with Sawan Shivratri marking a major occasion for Shiva devotees.
