Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to the state’s weavers and artisans on National Handloom Day, highlighting their contribution to preserving India’s cultural heritage and keeping traditional craftsmanship alive across generations.
The Chief Minister was speaking at an event in Lucknow where outstanding artisans were presented with the Sant Kabir State-Level Handloom Awards. He congratulated weavers and craftspeople across Uttar Pradesh and connected the significance of the occasion with India’s freedom movement.
Yogi Adityanath Recalls August 7, 1905
Addressing the gathering, Yogi Adityanath recalled the historical significance of August 7, 1905, when the Swadeshi Movement gained momentum as part of India’s freedom struggle.
The movement encouraged people to choose Indian-made products and reduce dependence on imported goods. According to the Chief Minister, the campaign also strengthened confidence in indigenous industries and gave traditional sectors such as handloom weaving greater importance.

Yogi Adityanath said the handloom industry should not be viewed only through its economic contribution. According to him, handwoven textiles represent India’s cultural identity, craftsmanship and traditions that have survived through generations.
