What Is Cocktail 2 About?
Directed by Homi Adajania, the film revolves around a young couple played by Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. The two characters are deeply in love but find themselves uncertain about taking the next step towards marriage.
Their romantic getaway to Sicily takes an unexpected turn when they meet Ally, played by Kriti Sanon. What initially appears to be a fun-filled vacation gradually develops into an emotional situation that puts their relationship to the test.
The story explores themes of love, trust, commitment and the complications that can arise when relationships become more complicated than expected.
Cocktail 2 Received Mixed Reviews
Although the Cocktail 2 OTT release is now generating interest among streaming audiences, the film had a difficult beginning with critics when it arrived in cinemas.
The movie opened theatrically on June 19, 2026, and received largely negative reviews. Critics particularly pointed towards its slow pace, lack of emotional depth and relatively limited character development.
Despite the criticism, the film managed to attract audiences and maintained enough momentum to become a commercial success.
Cocktail 2 Box Office Collection
The film opened with around ₹13 crore net in India and went on to collect approximately ₹47 crore during its opening weekend.
Although the expected word-of-mouth momentum did not fully materialise, the movie crossed the ₹100 crore mark in domestic collections. It also earned around $3.7 million overseas.
By the end of its theatrical run, Cocktail 2 reportedly reached a worldwide collection of ₹147 crore, making it one of the better-performing Hindi films of the year.
Cocktail 2 Becomes a Major Hindi Hit
With a worldwide collection of ₹147 crore, Cocktail 2 reportedly stands among the top-grossing Hindi films of 2026, ranking sixth as of August 14.
Its theatrical success is particularly notable considering the criticism it received from several reviewers. The film’s streaming debut could now introduce it to an even wider audience.
Is Cocktail 2 Connected to the 2012 Film?
Yes, but ‘Cocktail 2’ is described as a spiritual successor rather than a direct continuation of the 2012 film ‘Cocktail’.
The original movie, also directed by Homi Adajania, starred Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty. It became both a critical and commercial success and developed a strong following over the years.
The new film brings a different cast and storyline while retaining the romantic-drama flavour associated with its predecessor.
