Mumbai model Riya Ahir has appealed to the Mumbai Police to withdraw the FIR registered against her in connection with a student protest in the city. Ahir came into the spotlight after a photograph of her standing in front of a police van during the demonstration went viral on social media.
The model has now also sought police action against individuals who allegedly sent abusive messages and threats to her following the protest.
Riya Ahir Meets Mumbai Police Officials
A delegation from the Mumbai Youth Congress accompanied Riya Ahir to the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s Office, where the group met Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Manoj Sharma.
The delegation raised concerns over the FIR as well as alleged online harassment targeting Ahir. Youth Congress leaders said Sharma assured them that the process related to withdrawing the FIR would be initiated soon.
Police are also expected to look into complaints concerning people allegedly responsible for sending threatening messages to the model.

Model Says She Faced Online Abuse
Speaking after the meeting, Riya Ahir said she had been facing abusive comments and threats on social media since the protest. She claimed that although a complaint had been submitted to the police, she had not seen concrete action against those allegedly responsible.
Ahir also highlighted the case of a 19-year-old protest participant named Muskan, who, according to her, has faced similar abusive comments and threats online.
The issue has raised concerns among supporters of the protesters, particularly over the safety of young women who participate in public demonstrations.
Youth Congress Raises Questions Over FIR
Youth Congress national secretary Hargun Singh questioned why the FIR had not yet been withdrawn, claiming that a notification had already been issued regarding the withdrawal of cases against students who participated in the protest.
Mumbai Youth Congress president Zeenat Shabreen also demanded immediate action against social media accounts allegedly involved in harassment and intimidation.
According to the delegation, the police have been urged to examine the complaints and take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigation.
Viral Photograph Brought Riya Ahir Into Spotlight
Riya Ahir became widely known after a photograph from the July 22 protest at Shivaji Park in Dadar circulated online.
The image showed Ahir wearing a grey hoodie and standing in front of a police van carrying detained young protesters. The rain-soaked scene quickly became one of the most widely shared visuals associated with the Mumbai demonstration.
Her appearance in the photograph brought significant attention to her, while the FIR and subsequent social media reactions have now become a fresh point of discussion.
