UP high-tech cheating network exposed by STF, with 92 modified TFT screens recovered and links to exam centres across five states under investigation.
A major investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has revealed that a sophisticated cheating network operating in online competitive examinations may have had links with examination centres. The probe suggests that the network was not limited to helping candidates cheat but may also have involved individuals who had detailed knowledge of examination-centre infrastructure, computer systems and surveillance arrangements.
The UP high-tech cheating network came under further scrutiny after STF officials questioned Lokesh, an accused arrested by the Noida STF on July 31. Investigators reportedly found that people associated with the network understood the technical arrangements used at examination centres and exploited this knowledge to facilitate cheating.
According to the STF, 92 modified TFT screens were recovered from Lokesh. Investigators have found that he had allegedly been manufacturing such electronic devices since 2017 and supplying them to cheating groups operating in different states.
Network Spread Across Five States
The investigation has so far indicated the presence of the UP high-tech cheating network in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. STF officials believe the operation may have continued for several years and involved multiple groups that obtained electronic equipment according to the requirements of different examinations.
STF SP Rajkumar Mishra said the requirements of cheating groups varied depending on the examination. Electronic devices were therefore prepared and supplied accordingly. The findings have raised concerns that the operation may have been an organised and long-running business rather than an isolated arrangement.
Investigators are now trying to determine how many examinations were affected over the past seven to eight years and how many candidates may have used the network.
Examination Centre Staff Under Investigation
The probe into the UP high-tech cheating network has now expanded towards people associated with examination centres. STF officials are examining whether employees, technical personnel, former staff members or other individuals working at suspicious centres had any connection with the accused.
Investigators are also matching complaints and suspicious incidents reported at examination centres with the alleged activities of the network. They are trying to establish whether people with access to centre infrastructure helped the accused understand or bypass technical and monitoring systems.
How the High-Tech Cheating Case Emerged
The case came to light on May 22, 2026, during an SSC online examination at an examination centre in Knowledge Park. According to investigators, attempts were allegedly being made to facilitate cheating using a proxy server and server-related hacking techniques.
Seven accused persons were initially arrested in connection with the case. During the investigation, the arrest and questioning of Inderjit alias Yogi reportedly led investigators to Lokesh, who is from Alwar.
His questioning subsequently provided investigators with information about the alleged supply of modified TFT screens and the wider network.

Delhi Police Recruitment Exam Also Under Scanner
The investigation is no longer limited to SSC examinations. The STF is examining whether modified TFT screens supplied by Lokesh were used in the Delhi Police recruitment examination and other competitive or recruitment tests.
Officials are reportedly matching the dates on which Lokesh allegedly supplied equipment to different groups with the dates of online recruitment examinations held in the concerned states. A connection between equipment supply and examination dates could provide investigators with further evidence about the network’s operations.
STF Seeks Answers to Key Questions
The investigation into the UP high-tech cheating network is focusing on several key questions:
- How many examinations used the alleged equipment between 2017 and 2026?
- How did the modified screens reach more than six alleged cheating groups across five states?
- Did the network have contacts inside examination centres?
- Were Delhi Police recruitment and other examinations affected?
- Apart from the 92 recovered screens, how many devices were allegedly supplied?
- Who received the equipment and where was it used?
STF SP Rajkumar Mishra said the investigation is aimed at identifying everyone involved in the organised network that could compromise the fairness of competitive examinations. He said strict legal action would be taken against anyone whose role is established during the investigation.
The continuing probe into the UP high-tech cheating network could reveal the scale of the alleged operation, its links with examination-centre personnel and the number of examinations potentially affected over several years.
