AAP student wing ASAP held a candle march for students killed in the Satya Niketan tragedy, with leaders demanding hostels and better student safety.
The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) student wing, Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), organised a candle march on Monday evening to pay tribute to the students who lost their lives in the Satya Niketan Tragedy.
AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, along with several party MLAs and student members, participated in the march. The participants paid their respects to the deceased students and prayed for strength for their bereaved families.
Saurabh Bharadwaj Raises Questions Over PG Safety
Speaking during the candle march, Saurabh Bharadwaj raised concerns over the functioning of paying guest accommodations in the Satya Niketan area. He alleged that a PG network in the locality was being operated as part of a mafia-like syndicate involving senior BJP leaders.
Bharadwaj also alleged that property owners in the area were being threatened with sealing action. He claimed that such action was being used as a means of collecting money from residents and demanded that the government take action against properties allegedly linked to BJP MLAs first.
He further demanded that the complete list of PG owners in Satya Niketan be made public so that their ownership details could be verified. These allegations were made by Bharadwaj during the political response to the incident.
AAP Demands Immediate Hostels for Students
The Satya Niketan Tragedy has also renewed the AAP’s demand for better accommodation facilities for students. Bharadwaj said the Central government should take steps to construct dedicated hostels for students at the earliest.
He further demanded that until such hostels are ready, the government should bear the full PG fees of students who depend on private accommodation.
According to the AAP leader, providing safe and affordable accommodation should be a priority, particularly for students who are currently staying in rented PG facilities.

Kuldeep Kumar Questions Rescue Operation
Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar also spoke during the candle march and expressed grief over the loss of the students. He questioned the duration of the rescue operation and said that the authorities should have responded much faster to the emergency.
Kumar claimed that the rescue effort continued for around 30–35 hours and questioned why the operation took considerably longer than what he believed should have been required in the national capital.
He said the candle march was intended not only to remember the deceased students but also to demand measures that could prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Demand for Safe Student Accommodation
The AAP MLA reiterated the demand for hostels, saying students should not be forced to live in extremely small or unsafe rooms because of a lack of affordable accommodation.
Kumar also demanded that students’ rent should be waived until adequate hostel facilities become available. He said the party would continue raising the issue if the government failed to address the demand.
The Satya Niketan Tragedy has consequently brought renewed attention to student housing, PG safety and emergency response systems in Delhi.
AAP Appeals for Stronger Safety Measures
Kumar appealed to people across the country to speak up for the safety of students and stressed that such incidents can affect any family.
The Satya Niketan Tragedy has now become a major political issue, with the AAP demanding greater accountability, safer accommodation for students and immediate construction of hostels.
While participating in the candle march, AAP leaders said their primary objective was to honour the students who died and push for measures to ensure that such an incident is not repeated.
