Saurabh Bharadwaj alleges bicycles given to Delhi schoolgirls broke within two weeks and demands a probe into their quality and procurement.

The controversy over bicycles distributed to government schoolgirls in Delhi has intensified, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj alleging serious irregularities in their procurement and quality. He claimed that several bicycles started breaking within one or two weeks of being distributed to students.

Bharadwaj has described the issue as a Delhi Cycle Scam and renewed the AAP’s demand for an investigation into the purchase and distribution of the bicycles.

AAP Questions Bicycle Procurement Cost

According to Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Delhi government purchased the bicycles for around ₹7,000 each, while he claimed similar bicycles were available in the market for approximately ₹4,000.

He further alleged that a commission of ₹3,000 was involved in the purchase of each bicycle. Bharadwaj said the AAP had already raised concerns over the procurement process and alleged that no action had been taken on its complaint so far.

Students Raise Concerns Over Bicycle Quality

Bharadwaj shared a video on X in which schoolgirls can reportedly be heard complaining about the condition of the bicycles they received.

The AAP leader used these complaints to question the quality of the bicycles and demanded that the government examine whether the products supplied to students met the required standards.

Claim of 1.30 Lakh Bicycles Distributed

Saurabh Bharadwaj also alleged that around 1.30 lakh bicycles were distributed among schoolgirls. He claimed that low-cost bicycles were supplied with stickers representing an expensive brand or model.

He alleged that the difference between the claimed market price and procurement price points to possible financial irregularities. However, the allegations regarding the branding, pricing and procurement process would require verification through official records and an independent inquiry.

Appeal to Lieutenant Governor for Probe

Bharadwaj appealed to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor to order an investigation into the matter. He said the complaints from students make it necessary to examine the quality of the bicycles as well as the procurement process.

The AAP leader argued that an investigation should establish the actual purchase price, supplier details, quality standards and whether the procurement followed the prescribed rules.

The demand for a probe has brought the Delhi Cycle Scam controversy back into the political spotlight.

Bharadwaj Questions Manjinder Singh Sirsa

In a separate statement, Saurabh Bharadwaj also questioned BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa about a person named Manjeet Singh Aulakh.

Bharadwaj asked Sirsa whether he knew Aulakh and whether the two had any close association. He claimed that he had information linking Aulakh to an FIR concerning an alleged fraud case.

Bharadwaj sought clarification from Sirsa in the public interest and referred to a separate court-related statement involving Parvesh Verma and Amarjeet Singh Babbu. The claims concerning Manjeet Singh Aulakh and any alleged association have not been independently verified from the information provided.

Political Battle Intensifies Over Bicycle Issue

The Delhi Cycle Scam allegations have added another point of confrontation between the AAP and the BJP-led Delhi government.
