The Kota Municipal Corporation Election has gained political momentum with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma taking part in a roadshow in Kota’s Par Kota area. Former minister and Congress leader Shanti Dhariwal has questioned the Chief Minister’s decision to campaign in the civic polls.
Bhajanlal Sharma is returning to Kota’s electoral battleground after nearly 12 years. However, his role has changed significantly. In 2014, he was associated with the BJP organisation and played an important role in the party’s election strategy. Today, he is campaigning as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
Bhajanlal Sharma’s 2014 Kota Connection
During the 2014 municipal elections, Bhajanlal Sharma was serving as the BJP’s Kota city organisational in-charge. The party delivered a strong performance in that election, winning 53 of the 65 wards.
Congress and other parties managed to win only six wards each at that time. However, BJP’s performance in the subsequent Kota North Municipal Corporation election was considerably weaker. Out of 70 wards, the BJP won just 14 seats.
Against this backdrop, the Kota Municipal Corporation Election has become an important test for the BJP as it seeks to strengthen its position and revive its earlier electoral performance in the city.
CM to Hold Roadshow Across 5-6 Wards
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma is scheduled to conduct a roadshow across around five to six wards in the Kota North Assembly constituency.
The campaign is set to begin near the Kaithunipol police station. The location is significant as the area lies close to the boundary between the Kota North and Kota South Assembly constituencies.
The Chief Minister’s campaign is therefore being viewed as an effort to send a broader political message across both parts of the city.
For Bhajanlal Sharma, the Kota Municipal Corporation Election carries significance beyond the civic body itself. As the Chief Minister and a former BJP organisational strategist, his campaign is also being closely watched as a reflection of the party’s organisational approach in Rajasthan.
Shanti Dhariwal Questions CM’s Roadshow
Amid the campaigning, former Rajasthan minister and Congress MLA Shanti Dhariwal has criticised Bhajanlal Sharma’s roadshow.
Speaking at a street-corner meeting in Kota’s Ghantaghar area late at night, Dhariwal targeted the BJP and questioned why the Chief Minister was personally campaigning in a municipal election.
Dhariwal said he had been observing elections since 1952 but had never seen a Chief Minister enter the field to campaign in a municipal election.

Dhariwal Claims BJP Is Under Pressure
Dhariwal also claimed that the BJP was facing pressure ahead of the Kota Municipal Corporation Election and alleged that the party was concerned about its prospects.
He made these remarks while campaigning in support of Congress candidate and former deputy mayor Sonu Qureshi from Ward 45. Dhariwal appealed to voters to support Congress candidates in the civic polls.
His comments are part of the ongoing political contest between the BJP and Congress in Kota, with both parties attempting to consolidate their support among local voters.
Congress Focuses on Civic Issues
Dhariwal said Congress is focusing its campaign on everyday civic concerns affecting residents.
According to him, issues such as cleanliness, electricity, water supply, sewerage, city beautification and traffic management are among the key concerns being raised with voters.
He said Congress candidates are seeking support by highlighting urban development and basic public amenities rather than focusing only on political competition.
With Bhajanlal Sharma leading the BJP campaign and Congress leaders intensifying their outreach, the Kota Municipal Corporation Election is shaping up as an important political contest for both parties.
