Kuldeep Kumar criticised the BJP over Kaushal Mishra’s appointment as Delhi SC Morcha in-charge, alleging it reflects an anti-Dalit mindset.

AAP leader and Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar has criticised the BJP over the appointment of Kaushal Mishra as the in-charge of its Scheduled Caste (SC) Morcha in Delhi. He alleged that the decision reflects what he described as the BJP’s “anti-Dalit mindset” and questioned the party’s approach towards representation and reservation.

The controversy comes amid an ongoing political debate over reservation, constitutional rights and representation of Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Class communities.

Kuldeep Kumar Questions BJP’s Decision

Reacting to the appointment, Kuldeep Kumar questioned why a general-category leader was chosen to head the BJP’s SC Morcha in Delhi. He also asked whether Dalit and backward communities would have received constitutional safeguards for reservation and representation without the provisions introduced by Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.

In a post on X, the AAP MLA alleged that the BJP has faced repeated political criticism over its position on reservation. He argued that constitutional provisions have played a significant role in ensuring representation for historically disadvantaged communities.

Reservation Is a Constitutional Right, Says AAP MLA

Kuldeep Kumar said reservation should not be viewed merely as a benefit or facility but as a constitutional right designed to provide representation to communities that have historically faced discrimination.

He referred to reserved seats in legislative assemblies and Parliament, as well as opportunities in government employment and education, while stressing the importance of constitutional safeguards.

According to Kumar, the issue of reservation remains particularly significant as caste-based inequalities continue to exist in society.

‘Does BJP Have No SC Worker in Delhi?’

Sharing a video on X, Kuldeep Kumar referred to the Delhi Pradesh BJP organisational list and questioned the appointment of Kaushal Mishra as the SC Morcha in-charge.

He asked whether the BJP did not have an SC worker in Delhi who could be assigned the responsibility. At the same time, he acknowledged that there is no constitutional provision requiring a political party to appoint only an SC office-bearer to head an SC Morcha.

Kumar alleged that the BJP had used this organisational provision to appoint a general-category person to the position.

Debate Over Representation and Reservation

The AAP leader further linked the issue to the broader national debate over reservation. He said constitutional reservation has enabled members of SC and OBC communities to access reserved political positions, government services and educational opportunities.

Kuldeep Kumar argued that without constitutional reservation, representation of SC communities in legislatures and access to opportunities in institutions and government services would have been significantly affected.

He also accused the BJP of attempting to place general-category individuals in positions or spaces intended for SC, ST and OBC communities.

BJP and RSS Face Further Criticism

Kumar also targeted the BJP and RSS, alleging that both organisations have worked towards changing the Constitution with the objective of weakening or ending reservation.

He said the appointment of Kaushal Mishra as the SC Morcha in-charge should be viewed in the context of what he described as this broader political approach.

The AAP MLA urged members of Dalit and backward communities to remain alert about issues concerning reservation and constitutional rights.

Call to Protect Constitutional Rights

Concluding his criticism, Kuldeep Kumar appealed to people to stand up for reservation and the Constitution. He warned that failure to protect these rights could lead to reduced representation for Dalit and backward communities.

The remarks have added another political dimension to the wider debate over reservation, representation and the role of constitutional safeguards in Indian politics.
