A political controversy has erupted in Delhi after an incident involving Delhi Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar. A video circulating on social media appears to show Verma slapping a young man who was recording the proceedings. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has now demanded action against the minister and questioned the BJP-led Delhi government’s handling of the matter.
Arvind Kejriwal Targets PM Modi Over Gen-Z Outreach
Arvind Kejriwal criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi while referring to the incident and said that the government cannot expect to connect with Gen-Z while protecting ministers facing allegations.
According to Kejriwal, taking action against the minister and investigating those responsible for alleged irregularities in road construction would send a stronger message to young people than social-media activities or public events.
He also questioned why the Prime Minister would focus on efforts to engage with Gen-Z while, in his view, failing to act against allegations involving members of the government.
What Happened During the Tilak Nagar Road Inspection?
The controversy began during an inspection of a newly constructed road in Tilak Nagar. AAP MLA Jarnail Singh had questioned the quality of the road and reportedly pulled out portions of the road surface by hand.
A man identified as Saheb Singh was recording the proceedings when the confrontation occurred. A video of the incident later circulated widely, with the footage appearing to show Parvesh Verma pushing down the man’s phone and then slapping him. Singh subsequently submitted a complaint to Delhi Police at Vikaspuri Police Station. Police said they were verifying the facts.
Arvind Kejriwal Calls for Arrest and Investigation
In his criticism, Arvind Kejriwal urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against Parvesh Verma. He also called for an investigation into the road construction work and alleged corruption connected with it.
Kejriwal argued that taking action in the matter would demonstrate accountability and transparency to young people.
The AAP leader further alleged that the Delhi Police was being instructed to protect the minister. This remains an allegation made by Kejriwal and has not been independently established.

Parvesh Verma Gives His Version
Parvesh Verma has rejected the allegations as presented by AAP leaders. He said the video being circulated did not show the complete context of the incident and alleged that people associated with AAP had abused his family.
Verma also accused AAP MLA Jarnail Singh of seeking a commission from a road contractor. He said the Delhi government would independently examine the quality of road construction, including through technical tests.
Police Complaint Under Verification
The dispute has now moved beyond political accusations, with Delhi Police receiving a complaint from Saheb Singh against Parvesh Verma. Police sources said the complaint was being examined.
Reports have also noted that a previous assault case was registered against Singh, a detail that has become part of the dispute surrounding the incident. The existence of that earlier case does not by itself establish what happened during the Tilak Nagar confrontation.
Political Row Intensifies
The Tilak Nagar incident has become another point of confrontation between the AAP and the Delhi government. Arvind Kejriwal has framed the episode around accountability, Gen-Z outreach and alleged corruption in road construction, while Verma has disputed AAP’s version and raised counter-allegations.
The police verification and any further action will determine how the complaint progresses. For now, the incident remains at the centre of a political dispute between the two sides.
