Focus on AI, Quantum Technology and Biotechnology
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi stressed that scientific discoveries must move beyond laboratories to solve real-world challenges and strengthen India’s self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. Key priorities included artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, advanced materials and biotechnology.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh highlighted India’s growing startup ecosystem, noting its expansion from around 400 startups in 2014 to more than 2.3 lakh. He also emphasised the need to strengthen domestic biotechnology research and innovation.
Principal Scientific Adviser Ajay K. Sood called for closer coordination between scientific research, industrial development and regulatory policies to build advanced technological capabilities.
Nobel Laureates Share Scientific Insights
The conclave featured plenary lectures by Nobel laureates Joachim Frank and Richard J. Roberts. Frank discussed cryo-electron microscopy and its role in drug discovery, while Roberts explored gene splicing, microbial genomics and emerging applications in life sciences.
Technical sessions covered advanced manufacturing, generative and autonomous AI, and synthetic biology. Discussions included homegrown AI models, semiconductor manufacturing, collaborative robots, precision biotherapeutics and sustainable agricultural technologies.
Deep-Tech Startups and Research Funding
A startup exhibition and poster showcase provided opportunities for researchers, investors and industry representatives to explore emerging technologies and potential collaborations.
The discussions also highlighted the ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation Fund and ANRF mechanisms as potential avenues for supporting deep-tech innovation and helping research reach commercial markets.
Through ESTIC 2026, the government aims to strengthen links between scientific institutions, startups and industry. The conclave’s broader objective is to accelerate innovation, build domestic technological capabilities and ensure that scientific progress contributes to national development and public welfare.
