AAP to hold collective fast in Gandhinagar on 5 July over farmers’ issues, protesting electricity poles, crop losses and rural distress in Gujarat.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced a statewide collective fast on 5 July 2026 in Gandhinagar to raise farmers’ issues, including disputes over electricity poles, crop losses, and agricultural distress across Gujarat.
The programme will be held at the Satyagraha Chhavani in Gandhinagar, where senior state leadership, farmer representatives, and party workers will participate to highlight what the party describes as growing challenges faced by farmers in the state.
According to AAP Gujarat farmer cell president Praveen Ram, the protest aims to draw attention to multiple agricultural concerns, including alleged installation of electricity poles in farmlands and lack of timely government response to farmers’ grievances.
Farmers’ Issues at the Centre of Protest
The party claims that farmers across Gujarat are struggling with several issues, including irregular rainfall patterns, rising input costs, and uncertainty over fair crop prices. It further stated that in regions such as Jetpar, farmers have been staging protests for several days over unresolved demands.
AAP leaders argue that even when weather conditions remain favorable, farmers often fail to receive fair prices for their produce, adding to their economic distress.

Criticism of Government Response
The party has also alleged that despite repeated farmer protests and earlier mahapanchayats organised by AAP, the government has not taken adequate steps to address the situation. It claimed that no meaningful meetings or policy-level discussions have been held recently on these issues.
Praveen Ram stated that farmers in Gujarat are continuing their struggle through democratic means, but their concerns remain largely unheard.
Call for Statewide Participation
AAP has extended an invitation to farmers from across Gujarat to join the collective fast and raise their voices against what it calls administrative neglect. The party says the protest is aimed at ensuring that farmers’ demands are taken seriously and addressed without delay.
The demonstration is expected to bring together participants from several districts, including Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Kutch, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, and others.
Objective of the Protest
AAP leaders said the fast is intended to pressure authorities into resolving ongoing agricultural issues, including land-related infrastructure concerns and compensation-related disputes. The party reiterated that it will continue to advocate for farmers’ rights through peaceful democratic methods.
The event is expected to highlight growing political attention toward agrarian concerns in Gujarat ahead of upcoming policy discussions and rural outreach programmes.
