AAP MLA Gopal Italia raises farmers’ concerns over power supply, SAUNI water and transmission poles before PGVCL and the Junagadh Collector.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gopal Italia submitted memorandums to officials on behalf of farmers, raising three major concerns related to electricity supply, irrigation water and power transmission poles installed on agricultural land.
The representations were submitted in the presence of farmers from Visavadar, Bhesan and Junagadh talukas. Gopal Italia said the objective was to bring the farmers’ problems to the attention of the concerned authorities and seek timely action.
Electricity problems raised before PGVCL officials
One of the key issues raised by Gopal Italia was the poor electricity supply faced by farmers in the region. A memorandum was submitted to the Executive Engineer of Junagadh district regarding problems such as frequent line tripping and delays in addressing electricity faults.
According to the concerns raised by farmers, problems also include delays in replacing damaged transformers, repairing transformer-related faults, transferring transformers when required and providing routine maintenance services.
Farmers also complained that calls to fault offices do not always receive an adequate response. They alleged that some complaints are either not registered promptly or remain unresolved for several days.
Italia said around 50 issues have been submitted in writing to the GEB administration, with a request for appropriate action and resolution.
Demand to release SAUNI water for farmers
The second major issue concerned the availability of water for agriculture. A memorandum was submitted to the district administration seeking the supply of water under the SAUNI Yojana to dams, ponds and rivers in Visavadar, Bhesan and Junagadh talukas.
Gopal Italia said that rainfall had stopped and farmers could face difficulties if there was insufficient water for their crops. He argued that supplying SAUNI water through canals or rivers could help protect standing crops.
The AAP MLA said timely availability of irrigation water is particularly important for farmers seeking to protect their crops from drying conditions.

Farmers raise concerns over electricity poles
The third issue was raised by the Kisan Hit Raksha Samiti under the leadership of Rameshbhai. The memorandum focused on electricity transmission poles installed on agricultural land in connection with the Jetpur-Shahpur 66 kV and 220 kV lines.
Farmers alleged that poles had been installed on their agricultural fields without adequate compensation. They questioned why private agricultural land should be used for electricity infrastructure without providing compensation to affected landowners.
The farmers put forward their demand in the form of the slogan, “The field is mine, so why should the pole be yours?” They also demanded payment if electricity infrastructure is installed on their land.
Italia warns of further protest over electricity issues
Gopal Italia said farmers expect the authorities to address their concerns after receiving the memorandums. He warned that if the electricity-related problems are not resolved, he and the farmers could visit the GEB office together and organise a symbolic protest involving mattresses and musical instruments for a Ramdhun.
He questioned why farmers should have to repeatedly approach authorities for basic electricity services and demanded faster action on complaints.
Three demands placed before authorities
The representations submitted by the AAP MLA and farmers broadly cover three areas: reliable electricity supply, water availability through the SAUNI scheme and compensation-related concerns over transmission poles.
Gopal Italia said the farmers’ problems should reach the government and that officials should take concrete steps to resolve them. He also stressed that basic services such as electricity should be available to farmers without repeated complaints and appeals.
The memorandums are now expected to put pressure on the concerned departments to examine the issues raised by farmers and take appropriate action.
