AAP MLAs demand live broadcast of Gujarat Assembly proceedings, raising slogans for transparency and public accountability. Gopal Italia, Hemant Khwa, and others urge immediate YouTube and TV telecast.
On the second day of the budget session in Gandhinagar, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs strongly demanded live telecast of the Gujarat Assembly proceedings, highlighting the need for transparency and public accountability. The legislators raised slogans inside the House, urging the government to broadcast the proceedings on digital platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and television.
The protest was led by Visavadar MLA Gopal Italia, Dediapada MLA Chhatar Vasava, Jamjodhpur MLA Hemant Khwa, and Gariadhar MLA Sudhir Vaghani, who emphasized that live telecasts are crucial for public participation and democracy.
Speaking to the media, Gopal Italia stated, “The proceedings of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are broadcast live. Supreme Court and Gujarat High Court hearings are available on YouTube. Many other state assemblies telecast their proceedings as well. So why is Gujarat Assembly not live-streamed? Citizens, whose votes and taxes run the government, have the right to know what their representatives are discussing and debating in the Assembly.”
He further said that AAP MLAs have repeatedly submitted written and oral requests to start live telecasts, but no action has been taken so far. Today, banners and slogans were raised inside the House to reinforce the demand. “The government must immediately broadcast the Gujarat Assembly proceedings to strengthen democracy and increase transparency,” he added.

Hemant Khwa highlighted that since being elected three years ago, AAP MLAs have consistently demanded live telecasts. “Despite multiple letters to the Speaker and drawing the Chief Minister’s attention, the issue remains unaddressed. The BJP-Congress political setup seems to prioritize political interests over public welfare,” he said. Khwa also noted that even the most sensitive discussions in Parliament and High Courts are live-streamed for public access. “Similarly, Gujarat’s citizens deserve the right to see Assembly debates, questions, and ministerial responses transparently,” he asserted.
The protest emphasized that live telecasts would expose how opposition and ruling party members function in the Assembly, ensuring public scrutiny. AAP MLAs reiterated their call for immediate broadcast of proceedings through YouTube, television, and other platforms to uphold democratic values and accountability.
This renewed demand from AAP legislators underlines growing public expectations for transparency and digital accessibility in governance, setting a precedent for citizen engagement in Gujarat’s legislative process.
