Sam Curran, the captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), was accused of a Level 1 offense in accordance with IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.8.
Sam Curran, the captain of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), is facing yet another setback following his team’s devastating defeat to the Gujarat Titans in Sunday’s (April 21) PBKS vs. GT IPL 2024 match. Sam Curran was fined 50% of his match money by the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council for breaking the IPL’s code of conduct during yesterday’s play.
In accordance with IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.8, Sam Curran was accused of a Level 1 offense. Punjab Kings skipper Curran was penalized 50% of his match fees for “showing dissent towards an umpiring decision” during the PBKS vs. GT IPL 2024 match, according to an official IPL announcement.
According to IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.8, Curran committed a Level 1 offense. He acknowledged the offense and consented to the Match Referee’s punishment. The Match Referee’s ruling is definitive and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct, according to an IPL press release.
Article 2.8 includes “(a) excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire’s decision; (b) an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; (c) shaking the head; (d) pointing or looking at the inside edge when given out LBW; (e) pointing to the pad or rubbing the shoulder when caught behind; (f) snatching the cap from the Umpire; (g) requesting a referral to the TV Umpire (other than in the context of a legitimate request for a referral as may be permitted in such Match); and (h) arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the Umpire about his/her decision.”
RCB captain Faf du Plessis fined for maintaining slow-over rate
The BCCI has also fined RCB skipper Faf du Plessis for keeping a sluggish over-rate during Sunday’s IPL encounter between KKR and RCB at Eden Gardens. For the first time this season, Du Plessis has received a fine for sluggish overrate. Furthermore, in the IPL 2024 season, this was RCB’s first over-rate violation.
