Nitin Nabin, 45, becomes BJP’s youngest national president after an unopposed election. The Bihar MLA will formally take charge, succeeding JP Nadda.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially chosen Nitin Nabin as its new national president, marking a historic moment as the 45-year-old leader becomes the youngest person ever to head the party. The decision was finalized on Monday after he was elected unopposed, with no other contenders in the race.
Nabin, a five-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Bihar, was the only nominee for the top post. His candidature received strong backing from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several senior party leaders, ensuring a smooth and unanimous election process. He will formally assume office on Tuesday, succeeding JP Nadda, who has served as BJP president since 2020.
Strong Support From Senior Leadership
The returning officer for the election, K Laxman, confirmed that a total of 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in favor of Nitin Nabin, and all were found valid after scrutiny. Among the proposers were Prime Minister Modi, outgoing party chief JP Nadda, and Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari.
Out of the total nominations, 36 were filed by BJP’s state units, while one nomination came from the BJP Parliamentary Party. Several prominent leaders were present during the nomination process, including Nirmala Sitharaman, Kiren Rijiju, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Election Process Completed After State-Level Polls
According to party rules, the national president’s election can begin only after organizational elections are completed in at least half of the states. Laxman stated that 30 out of 36 state presidents had already been elected, exceeding the required threshold. The official election schedule and electoral roll were released on January 16, 2026.
The nomination window remained open between 2 pm and 4 pm on Monday, during which all nomination documents were examined and approved without objections.

From Bihar Politics to National Leadership
Born in 1980—the same year the BJP was founded—Nitin Nabin entered politics in 2006 following the passing of his father, Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a former BJP legislator. Over the years, he has built a strong political profile in Bihar, serving as a cabinet minister handling key departments such as law and justice, urban development, and housing.
Nitin Nabin has also led the BJP Yuva Morcha in Bihar, gaining recognition for his organizational skills and grassroots connect. In December, he was appointed the party’s working president, signaling his rising influence within the organization.
Focus on Youth, Organization, and Elections
Party insiders believe Nitin Nabin’s elevation reflects BJP’s emphasis on youth leadership, organizational strength, and future-ready political strategy. With several important elections ahead, his leadership is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the party’s roadmap and expanding its national footprint.
As he steps into the top organizational role, expectations remain high for fresh ideas, stronger cadre engagement, and continued electoral momentum.
