The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that Lucknow Super Giants batter Ayush Badoni will replace Washington Sundar for the remaining ODIs against New Zealand. Sundar suffered a rib injury during India’s first ODI against the Kiwis at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara and will miss the second and third matches of the series.
Washington Sundar Ruled Out
Washington Sundar experienced acute discomfort in his left lower rib while bowling in the first ODI. After completing just five overs, the all-rounder had to leave the field and did not return for the remainder of India’s innings. Although he later batted, Sundar managed an unbeaten seven off seven balls, helping India successfully chase 301 runs alongside KL Rahul, who remained 29 not out.
The BCCI Medical Team will conduct further scans, and expert opinions will guide Sundar’s recovery. For now, the focus shifts to Ayush Badoni, who has received his maiden call-up to the Indian ODI squad.
