Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann highlights women empowerment through education, jobs, financial aid, and leadership opportunities while honouring women entrepreneurs in Mohali.
Reinforcing his government’s commitment to inclusive growth, Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday emphasized that women should not only manage households but also take leadership roles in shaping the nation. Speaking at a felicitation ceremony in Mohali, the Chief Minister outlined a comprehensive roadmap for strengthening women’s participation in governance, economy, and public life.
Addressing a gathering of grassroots entrepreneurs, Mann stressed that education is the foundation of empowerment. “Women who efficiently run homes have the capability to run the country as well,” he said, underlining the importance of women stepping into leadership and decision-making roles. His remarks strongly align with the state’s broader agenda on women empowerment, which focuses on education, representation, and economic independence.
Push for Women in Politics and Governance
Encouraging women to actively participate in politics, Mann noted that despite excelling in multiple fields, women remain underrepresented in governance. He urged them to break barriers and contribute to building a more balanced and democratic society. The emphasis on women empowerment was evident as he called for greater representation in legislative and administrative roles.
Highlighting administrative reforms, the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann pointed out that Punjab has witnessed the highest-ever appointments of women as Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police. This shift marks a significant milestone in ensuring gender equality in leadership positions.
Financial Support and Welfare Initiatives
Bhagwant Singh Mann detailed several welfare schemes aimed at uplifting women across the state. Under the ‘Maavan Dhian Satkar Yojana’, women will receive monthly financial assistance ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500, directly credited to their bank accounts. Nearly 97% of women in Punjab are expected to benefit from this initiative, making it a cornerstone of women empowerment policies.
Additionally, the ‘Meri Rasoi’ scheme will provide essential ration kits to around 40 lakh families, further strengthening household security and reducing financial stress on women.
Boost to Entrepreneurship and Livelihood
The Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann also highlighted the success of the Punjab State Rural Livelihood Mission, under which thousands of Self Help Groups have been formed, connecting lakhs of rural families. Over ₹147 crore has been disbursed to support these initiatives.
Under the Pehal Startup Project, more than 2,000 startups have been launched, generating thousands of jobs. Sakhi Shakti Melas organized across districts have enabled women to earn substantial income, showcasing the practical impact of women empowerment initiatives.

Reservations and Social Security Measures
In a major policy move, the Punjab government has implemented 33% reservation for women in government jobs and 50% reservation in local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions. These steps aim to ensure long-term structural empowerment.
Healthcare and social security have also been strengthened through initiatives like Aam Aadmi Clinics and cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh under state health schemes. Free electricity and transport for women further contribute to improving their quality of life.
Recognition of Grassroots Achievers
During the event, 100 top-performing women entrepreneurs from 23 districts were honoured with cash awards, certificates, and mementos. This recognition is part of a larger effort to celebrate grassroots achievements and inspire others.
Also present at the event was Manish Sisodia, who praised the initiative for recognizing women from ordinary backgrounds. He said such efforts would play a crucial role in transforming lives and encouraging women to become nation builders.
A Vision for the Future
Concluding his address, Mann reiterated that true empowerment comes from continuous learning and self-reliance. He urged women to stay confident, upgrade their skills, and seize emerging opportunities.
With a strong focus on policy reforms, financial support, and leadership opportunities, the Punjab government’s approach to women empowerment is setting a new benchmark for inclusive governance in India.
