Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann strongly opposes the Indo-US Trade Deal in the Punjab Assembly, urging the central government to protect farmers’ rights and Indian democracy.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today presented a strong condemnation motion against the Indo-US Trade Deal during the Budget Session of the Punjab Assembly. The Chief Minister expressed deep concern over the fact that the central government did not consult any state or hold an all-party meeting before finalizing this critical agreement, which he described as a clear disregard for India’s federal structure and democratic values.
According to CM Mann, the deal poses serious threats to the interests of the common people and particularly the nation’s farmers. “Instead of safeguarding the rights of the poor and farmers, the central government is adopting an authoritarian approach that could weaken India economically and socially,” he stated.
The Punjab CM criticized the unilateral decision-making by the central government, calling it “arbitrary and undemocratic.” He urged the government to listen to the voices of citizens and take decisions in the best interests of the people, rather than against them.
Protecting Farmers and Public Interests’
Bhagwant Mann emphasized that the Indo-US Trade Deal could jeopardize the livelihoods of India’s farmers, who form the backbone of the country’s food security. He called upon all stakeholders to stand united against policies that threaten farmers, Dalits, marginalized communities, and the common people.
“Let us all rise democratically to oppose these authoritarian policies and fight for the protection of the rights of our farmers, the poor, and all citizens,” Mann asserted.

The motion drew attention to the lack of transparency and consultation in the deal-making process and highlighted the need for the central government to adopt policies that prioritize the welfare of the people over political expediency.
CM Mann concluded by calling on all political parties, farmer unions, and civil society groups to collectively safeguard India’s democracy and economic independence.
