In a heartfelt interaction, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke over the phone with the father of Angel Chakma, a student from Nandanagar in Unakoti district, Tripura, who tragically passed away following an assault by a group of youths on December 9. Angel had been hospitalized after the attack but succumbed to his injuries recently.
During the conversation on Monday, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep condolences to Angel’s father, Tarun Prasad Chakma, and reassured him that the state government would ensure strict action against the perpetrators. “Five accused have already been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend another suspect believed to have fled to Nepal. A reward has also been announced to facilitate his capture,” the Chief Minister stated.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said that he personally feels sorrow over this incident and empathizes with the family’s grief. He emphasized that such acts are unacceptable in Uttarakhand, a state that has always maintained a safe and conducive environment for students from across the country and abroad. “The government will ensure that no lapse occurs, and justice will be served,” he added.
The Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami further instructed authorities to act firmly in such cases, particularly where crimes involve vulnerable individuals. In response to grievances about safety, he highlighted that the state government remains fully committed to protecting students and maintaining law and order.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami also mentioned that following the incident, he had discussions with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to coordinate measures and provide support to the victim’s family. “The Uttarakhand government stands fully with the bereaved family and will provide all possible assistance, including coordination with the Tripura state administration,” he assured.
