In related news, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced plans to invest USD 17.5 billion (approximately ₹1.58 lakh crore) in India over the next four years to strengthen the country’s AI infrastructure and sovereign capabilities. The announcement follows Nadella’s meeting with Prime Minister Modi, where both leaders discussed India’s AI growth roadmap and strategic priorities.
This investment marks Microsoft’s largest-ever commitment in Asia and is part of a series of major AI-related investments in India. Earlier this year, Google revealed plans to invest USD 15 billion over five years to establish an AI hub in India, including the country’s largest data centre in collaboration with the Adani Group. Additionally, Digital Connexion, a joint venture of Brookfield, Reliance Industries, and Digital Realty, announced a USD 11 billion AI investment plan.
Microsoft stated that the USD 17.5 billion will be used to build infrastructure, develop AI skills, and enable large-scale AI adoption across India, supporting the country’s vision for an AI-driven future.
