Delhi government launches new EV policy: Scrap your old car and get up to ₹1 lakh incentive on new electric vehicles. Promote green transport and reduce pollution.
In a major move to curb air pollution and promote sustainable transportation, the Delhi government has launched a Delhi New EV Policy offering significant incentives for residents who scrap their old vehicles and purchase new electric vehicles (EVs). Under this policy, eligible buyers can receive up to ₹1 lakh incentive for trading in their old cars.
Incentives for Old Car Scrapping
According to the Delhi New EV Policy, residents who register their old vehicles at certified scrapping centers and purchase a new electric car within six months are eligible for financial incentives of up to ₹1 lakh. This scheme initially applies to the first 100,000 EV buyers.

The policy also extends benefits to two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Motorcycles being scrapped will receive ₹10,000, while three-wheelers will get ₹25,000. These incentives are directly credited to the buyer’s bank account, making it easier for Delhi residents to transition to eco-friendly electric vehicles.
Boosting Electric Vehicle Adoption
Delhi has over 61 lakh old vehicles, including 41 lakh two-wheelers, 18 lakh cars, and 2 lakh other vehicles. By replacing aging vehicles with electric alternatives, the government aims to reduce air pollution and improve public health. The EV scheme is expected to accelerate adoption, with electric vehicle sales projected to grow by up to 20% in the coming months.
Positive Impact on Environment and Economy
The Delhi Delhi New EV Policy not only provides financial support to citizens but also encourages a cleaner environment. By gradually replacing petrol and diesel vehicles with electric alternatives, Delhi can achieve significant reductions in vehicular emissions while promoting green transportation and technological adoption.
