G Kishan Reddy, the coal minister, takes steps to meet Telangana’s growing needs for energy security.
SCCL has been granted 643 Ha of forest land.
Production from the Naini Coal Mine Will Start Soon
On August 13, 2015, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) was granted ownership of the Odisha coal mine Naini, which has an annual output capacity of 10 million tons, with the intention of using the coal for its thermal power plant. After receiving Stage-II forest clearance in October 2022, this mine was experiencing unusual delays in transferring forest land, which delayed the mine’s operationalization.
Following his appointment, Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G Kishan Reddy has had lengthy talks with the Odisha government to address the long-standing problem and expeditiously operationalize the mine in the spirit of cooperative federalism. As a result, on July 4, 2024, SCCL was granted permission to transfer 643 Ha of forest land. Particular gratitude was extended by Shri G Kishan Reddy to Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Manjhi for his prompt resolution of the matter.
It is anticipated that SCCL will soon start producing from the mine. Telangana’s needs for energy security will be further strengthened and secured by taking this action.
