AAP gives Gujarat government a 3-day ultimatum over drought-like conditions, announcing a Khambhalia satyagraha from August 29 if demands remain unmet.
Gujarat: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has issued a three-day ultimatum to the Gujarat government over alleged drought-like conditions in several parts of the state. AAP state frontal organisation and Kisan Cell president Praveen Ram said that if the government fails to act on the party’s demands, a Gujarat Drought Protest will begin in Khambhalia on August 29.
According to Praveen Ram, several areas of Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Kutch, Saurashtra and North Gujarat are facing severe rainfall shortages. He claimed that the situation has created difficulties for farmers and livestock owners.
AAP Raises Concern Over Rainfall Deficit
Praveen Ram said that Devbhumi Dwarka has received around two inches of rainfall, which he described as approximately six per cent of the average. Jamnagar, according to his statement, has received around 7.5 inches.
He also mentioned areas including Junagadh, Rajkot, Godhra, Kotda Sangani and Banaskantha, claiming that several parts of Saurashtra and North Gujarat have received less than 10 inches of rainfall and have experienced extended dry periods.
The AAP leader referred to the Dushkal Manual 2016 while demanding that the government assess the affected regions according to the applicable drought-related criteria.
Three-Day Ultimatum to Gujarat Government
The party has given the state government three days to respond to its demands. Praveen Ram said that failure to take action would lead to the proposed Gujarat Drought Protest in Khambhalia.
The protest is scheduled to begin at 11 am on August 29 at the ground near Vanijya College in Khambhalia. AAP leader Isudan Gadhvi is expected to lead the programme and sit on an indefinite symbolic protest, according to the party’s announcement.
AAP leaders and workers have also announced their support for the proposed agitation.
Four Major Demands of AAP
AAP has outlined four key demands concerning the alleged drought-like situation:
Declare affected areas drought-hit: Regions receiving less than 10 inches of rainfall and experiencing prolonged dry conditions should be declared drought-affected, according to the party.
Provide irrigation water: Immediate arrangements should be made to ensure irrigation water reaches affected farming areas.
Ensure fodder supply: The government should address the shortage of fodder and provide adequate supplies for livestock.
Waive farmers’ electricity bills: Farmers in severely affected areas should receive relief through a waiver of their electricity bills.
Praveen Ram said these measures are necessary to provide immediate relief to farmers and livestock owners facing difficult conditions.

Farmers Urged to Join Khambhalia Protest
AAP has appealed to farmers from Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Kutch, Saurashtra and North Gujarat to reach Khambhalia and participate in the proposed movement.
The party has called for unity among farmers and urged them to raise their concerns collectively before the state government. Praveen Ram also urged the government to implement the relevant provisions of the Dushkal Manual 2016, as applicable.
AAP Targets BJP Government Over Farmers’ Issues
The AAP leader criticised the BJP-led state government and alleged that ministers have not taken adequate concrete measures to address the concerns of farmers. He demanded immediate action instead of assurances.
The proposed Gujarat Drought Protest is being positioned by AAP as a campaign for drought declaration and immediate relief measures. The party says the government should respond to the demands before the deadline expires.
The allegations and demands have been made by AAP; the government’s response to these specific claims was not included in the statement provided.
What Happens Next?
The three-day deadline is now the key focus, with AAP stating that it will proceed with the Khambhalia agitation if its demands are not addressed.
If the protest goes ahead as announced, the Gujarat Drought Protest could bring renewed attention to rainfall shortages, irrigation, fodder availability and electricity-related relief for farmers across the affected regions. AAP has urged farmers to participate in large numbers and make their demands heard.
