In a statement released late on Friday night, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated that off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the current Rajkot Test because of an urgent medical matter involving his family. Although the release urged that Ashwin’s privacy be respected, Board Vice President Rajeev Shukla disclosed the reason why Ashwin was forced to withdraw from a match that was still in progress just minutes after the formal statement was posted on the BCCI’s official social media account.
