Covid-19 Cases: India saw its largest one-day increase in COVID-19 cases since May 21, 2023, on Saturday, with 752 new cases reported, bringing the total number of active infections in the nation to 3,420. The Union Health Ministry reports that four deaths have occurred in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 5,33,332. Based on the statistics, two of these deaths occurred in Kerala, and one each in Rajasthan and Karnataka.
Of the 752 cases reported nationwide, Kerala accounted for a sizable portion (266 cases). The total number of Covid cases in the country was 4.50 crore (4,50,07,964). According to the health ministry’s website, as of right now, 4,44,71,212 people have recovered from the illness, and the country’s recovery rate is 98.81 percent.
The current fatality rate is 1.19 percent. According to the ministry, the Covid vaccination has been given out in the nation in 220.67 crore doses thus far.
In the meantime, former top scientist of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, told a news agency that there is now no need for alarm since this is a variation of curiosity rather than a cause for concern. She did, however, advise everyone to exercise caution and take the appropriate safety precautions.
Covid-19 Cases: According to ANI, the former director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) stated, “We need to be cautious, but we don’t need to worry because we don’t have any data to suggest that this variant JN.1 is more severe or it’s going to cause more pneumonia, more death.”
JN.1 was recently designated by the WHO as an interesting variety that is different from its parent lineage BA.2.86. On the basis of available data, the UN health organization claimed that the sub-variant’s overall risk is still minimal. Additionally, according to WHO, within the previous four or so weeks, there has been a 52% increase in the number of new COVID cases.
