India and Venezuela agree to deepen energy partnership during high-level talks in New Delhi, focusing on oil trade, investment, and multi-sector cooperation.
India and Venezuela have agreed to further strengthen their bilateral partnership with a strong focus on energy cooperation, alongside expanded collaboration in trade, investment, healthcare, and industrial sectors, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held detailed talks in New Delhi with Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez, where both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of India–Venezuela relations and explored new areas of engagement.
Energy partnership at the core of discussions
A major highlight of the talks was the decision to further develop an energy partnership between the two countries. Venezuela, which holds one of the world’s largest crude oil reserves, is seen as a key energy supplier for India’s growing energy needs.
According to senior MEA officials, discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in both upstream and downstream energy sectors, especially as Venezuela’s energy industry undergoes structural changes.

Expanding cooperation beyond energy
Apart from energy, both sides also explored opportunities in multiple sectors including:
- Mining and critical resources
- Agriculture and animal husbandry
- Transportation and automotive industry

Officials noted that India is viewed by Venezuela as a stable and long-term energy and trade partner.
Focus on Global South and strategic cooperation
During the meeting, both leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties among Global South nations and enhancing cooperation on international platforms.
Experts say this engagement reflects India’s broader strategy of diversifying energy sources while strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with resource-rich nations.
